Jobs, Careers, and other means of employment...

Who moved my cheese? Patrick quit his job last week. He hung in there as long as he could, but finally it was time to break loose and start looking for something else.

I'm still unemployed as well. I've been off since we moved to Georgia last summer. It didn't make much since to get a job with maternity leave just around the corner since I was pregnant with Clayton. I had planned to work part time after his birth, but not until I had him up a few months older than he is now. I know in light of what has happened I should go back to work now, but I just cry when I think of leaving the kids. I just can't do it yet.

So, what are we going to do??? We are both looking for jobs now. I'm focusing on pharmacy remote order entry jobs that would allow me to work from home, but they aren't very plentiful. Patrick has applied to a few civil engineering jobs with emphasis on stormwater management, but so far the only ones we've found aren't within daily driving distance from our house in Macon.

He has also signed up to attend Modoc railroad academy in Sacramento, CA. They offer a 9 week conductor certification course and a 6 month locomotive engineer certification course. Both have had 100% job placement for every graduate over the last 6+ years. They don't guarantee a job, but they nearly could. Unfortunately the jobs aren't necessarily in Georgia. We haven't decided with program Pat will pursue, but either way it will be a hardship to have the family split up for so long (not to mention the lack of income and extra expenses of schooling).

To distract us from the horrid reality of our circumstances we have been spending a lot of our time up with my parents working on the forclosure property they purchased for my grandmother. It needs new EVERYTHING. We just got done helping install new kitchen cabinets, and Patrick primed lots of wood trim. It is progressing nicely, but there are still lots of projects we hope to help with.
